Masaba North Knut branch has threatened to take a legal action against TSC and school heads who are allegedly subjecting some of their members to interdiction without giving them a fair hearing.

Speaking on Tuesday at Mosobeti primary school, secretary general Moses Onwong’a accused school heads and education officers of subjecting victims to ‘torture’ and ‘intimidation’ and vowed to challenge the move due to increasing number of questionable cases.

He, however, challenged TSC, the Ministry of Education and school managements to invite the teachers' union in solving matters affecting all members.

“We have been receiving complaints from a number of our members who are complaining of being discriminated and denied opportunity to defend themselves in case they are facing disciplinary actions. We want fair treatment and even the constitution allows that. They must be given fair hearing and we will fight for that,” he said.

He defended his move and said fighting for the rights of members did not necessarily mean that the union was promoting impunity.

“Fighting for the rights of our innocent teachers does not mean that we are defending impunity. We want our members to be given fair hearing before being found innocent or guilty,” he said.

According to him, at least 20 teachers from the region had been interdicted or temporarily suspended on allegations ranging from rape, drunkenness, absconding of duty among others.
