Eldoret Catholic Diocese Arch Bishop Cornelius Korir has concurred with Industrial Court Judge Nelson Abuodha, who ruled for the suspension of the teachers' strike for 90 days.
Speaking on Sunday after church service, Korir said that the court's ruling was on point since students had suffered a lot due to the absence of teachers, and yet most of them are sitting for their national examinations.
"I welcome the court's ruling with both hands since as a parent I really felt it, the time lost and money by students staying at home with their parents, but am now happy since my prayer was that teachers' strike be called off as soon as possible for them to go back to school," he said.
He reiterated that the government must respect the court ruling, and go hand in hand with the teachers union to ensure that they come up with a formidable way of ensuring that the pay increase is implemented no matter how long it will take.
"I urge Teachers' Unions; Kuppet and Knut to soften their stand and direct teachers to go back to school to prepare students to sit for their national exams, at least they should have mercy on those students if not the government," he added.
"As the men of the cloth, we are watching keenly and anyone who will violate the court's direction will be dealt with accordingly," he added.
He advised the teachers' union to call off the strike as early as today, Monday, for parents to take their children to school.
