Kenya Power and Lightening Company has been advised to re-route overhead cables in Miriri village in Kitutu Masaba constituency following the perceived danger posed by the current connection to area residents.

The current cables are connected in the manner that they are few meters to the ground and could easily electrocute are residents.

Speaking during the assessment of the cables, area MCA Peter Maroro who led area residents to make the appeal said the power company had a week to rectify the situation.

He said the residents will be compelled to protest against the Kenya’s power distribution company in case their request is not fixed urgently.

“Everyone here is scared with the way the electric cables are dangerously placed in the manner that they pose a risk to us. KPLC has only a week to rectify the situation or face our wrath. They have the authority to protest residents from any danger. We have an alternative route,” Maroro said.

He said the company had failed to adopt the recommendation by a village committee that suggested an alternative route for the overhead cables.

“We had sharply differed with the contractor and even did some recommendations to KPLC. They ignored us and now you can see how the cables are dangerously lagging due to topography of our land,” he added.

They said the move will help protect children who may be tempted to play with the overhead cables.
