Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has blamed cartels for sale of illegal drinks in parts of Kiambu county.

The MP says that unless the cartel allegedly supplying fake alcoholic drinks is dealt with, alcoholism will remain a problem.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Kuria said that the cartel is widespread and could be using youths to supply the drinks.

“The police must first arrest and prosecute the cartel behind illegal drinks before doing anything else in curbing,” he said.

Kuria said that thousands of youths in his constituency have been affected by alcohol. He said young men who should be fending for their families have been lost in alcoholism.

He said that it is not too late for the government to fight brew menace asking the government to rehabilitate youths who are addicted. He said that condemning those addicted will not help save their situation.

The MP said that he will work with other leaders in a bid to fight the brew menace and alcoholism.

Elsewhere, Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu has said that he does not regret leading youths in demolishing bars in Kabete and Witeithe last weekend.

Waititu says he will lead more demolitions to make sure that illegal bar operators are weeded out of Kabete Constituency.
