A woman operating a food shop illegally was finally caught today in Maseno after dodging the public health officers for long.
The woman is accused of not adhering to the standard hygiene required. Concern had been raised by some of the area residents who guided the health officers to where the woman fled.
The officers have been looking for her but she has always been smart for them as she operates mostly around 6pm when the officers are not on duty.
She runs a business of selling chapatis, mandazi, githeri among others along a street in Maseno Market and disposing the waste products immediately beside her business place.
The health officers thanked the residents for their cooperation saying that were it not for their efforts, they would not have apprehended her.
“Always be vigilant and do not compromise anyone who risks your health. Your health is at your hands and always maintains high standards of hygiene to shun diseases. You have shown a great deal of patriotism by informing us about this,” said George Otieno, Kisumu public health officer.
The officer added that hygiene in business is paramount and anyone got operating in compromising situations will face the law and they also risk confiscation of their operating licences.
Eunice Awino, a Maseno resident said she is contented with the move by the public health officers and looks forward to more action from them to do away with possible chances of getting diseases like cholera.
“This woman has been a problem to us tainting our image. In fact we have lost most of our customers because we operate close to her business place. We look forward to more crackdowns from the health officers,” said Awino.
The woman's operating licence was also confiscated in the process.
