A landlord in Mombasa County is set to receive more than Sh6 million from the Tourism ministry following a court ruling.
In the case before a Mombasa court on Tuesday, landlord Suryakant Mohanial Savani had filed the case against the ministry seeking Sh6 million in rent arrears.
Lady Justice Anne Omollo in her ruling ordered for the ministry to pay Mr Savani the money within 30 days.
Savani, who is suing the ministry, claimed the it breached the terms of their tenancy agreement by defaulting on payment of rent.
In the suit, Savani who is the ministry’s landlord at Ideal House in Mombasa, said he had entered into an agreement with the tourism ministry.
Savani told the court the ministry had rented the premises for five years and had agreed to pay Sh250,000 per month.
The landlord said he was forced to file the case against the ministry after the it defaulted many times on rent payment.
Savani, in his suit papers was also seeking court orders to compel the ministry, its servants or agents occupying the property to vacate it.
Judge Omollo ordered for the case to be mentioned on October 28, 2015.
