Bodaboda operators in Langas estate, Eldoret Town have urged the Uasin Gishu County government to create a parking bay for their bikes.

Speaking in Langas on Thursday, the bodaboda riders said they have no specific place where they can park their bikes as they wait for customers a situation they say has hampered their business.

Abraham Aluda, a bodaboda rider at Langas, said that having a parking bay will greatly help the operators.

He said they have no space for parking and that they are forced to move around searching for customers.

“The Uasin Gishu County government through the Roads and Transport Department should construct a parking bay for us,” said Aluda.

Geoffrey Musungu, a tuktuk rider at Langas said that lack of specific places for them to park is affecting his business.

“I have to maneuver around the estate in search of customers because there is no specific place for me to park my tuktuk,” he said.

The riders are now appealing to area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Francis Muya to help them get a parking bay.

“We have approached our MCA Muya to help us push the request to the county government,” said Musungu.

At the same time, the bodaboda riders have complained over alleged harassment from a section of county askaris.

The bodaboda riders claimed that some askaris are harassing and intimidating them, forcing them to part with money for them to park or operate at specific places.

“We are also appealing to the Uasin Gishu County commissioner to intervene and take action against some county askaris who demand for bribes from us,” said a bodaboda rider who sought anonymity for fear of intimidation.
