The ongoing reshuffling of teachers in Kitutu Masaba constituency is fuelled by area politicians, former school heads have claimed.

Speaking on Tuesday at Mosobeti primary school, they accused elected leaders from the region of working closely with education officers to dictate who leads which school in the area.

They said continued transfer of teachers from one institution to another was hindering performance in the region.

“As former school heads, we are really concerned with the way elected leaders are influencing transfer of school heads in our institutions," said Isaac Nyang’au.

"They are working with education offices to jeopardise development of education in our region.”

According to them, elected leaders were interfering with education by targeting teachers who may have had a divergent opinion contrary to their feelings and were therefore setting a bad precedence in school administration.

“Administration of our schools should be left for those obliged, parents and other stakeholders but it is improper for leaders to bring politics in matters education by punishing those who give opposing opinions on matters development,” added Mr Duke Bosire.

However, Gesima MCA Ken Atuti termed the sentiments of the former teachers as ‘unfortunate and reckless’, saying the leaders had an obligation to ensure that institutions are led in a proper manner.
