Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has asked residents to raise their concerns over the grabbed assets in their towns and centres to help the Transition Authority carry out its audit effectively.
Deputy governor said through public participation would help to identifying grabbed and misappropriated assets.
Responding to the question from a member of the public on the steps the government has taken in recapturing the grabbed lands in Kisii town, he said TA owed them an explanation on how public lands and other properties ended into private hands.
“Your queries are good. What I can say here is that we are aware of the claims that some public lands and other assets have been privatized, but my assurance to you is that we will not relent till we have reposed the stolen assets through TA which is yet to mandate us custodianship of the public properties from the defunct government,” he said adding that lands, vehicles and buildings are some of the assets they are yet to reposes.
Maangi reminded them that all assets belonging to the defunct local authority are in the custody of the TA.
He was speaking on Wednesday in Kisii Cultural hall in the public participation forum during presentations of unaudited inventory of assets and liabilities of the defunct local authorities to the county government and the public.
The DG confirmed that a total of Sh 977 million was misappropriated during the era of the local government of Kisii municipality.
