A section of Narok Members of County Assembly (MCAs) has defended Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Joseph ole Lenku and urged the planned impeachment motion be dropped.
The MCAs, mostly from the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord), threatened to leave the coalition should Kisumu Central lawmaker Ken Obura make good his move to push for the impeachment of the CS.
Narok Cord chairman Kipas Lengues said should the coalition continue to push for the impeachment motion, they will ensure that the cord rally planned for 29th June in Narok will not take off. The Suswa ward MCA also threatened that the MCAs will leave the coalition.
Narok county assembly speaker Nick ole Kamwaro accused Cord members of opposing the appointment of a Maasai to a senior position sometimes back.
“Pushing for the removal of Ole Lenku was a clear indication that the Cord coalition is dishonest to a community from which the coalition has massive following,” Kamwaro said.
He faulted the manner in which the opposition leaders were pushing for national dialogue with the government, adding that the same should be within the precincts of the law.
Ole Kamwaro said it would not be possible to push for national dialogue in rallies riddled with rhetoric and hate speech.
Speaking at Nakuru town on Wednesday while attending a two-day forum, the MCAs said that Cord leaders are living in a world of denial and the coalition is sabotaging government operations.
Ole Lenku is facing removal from office over his inability to stop the high insecurity incidences in the country.
