Machakos county Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO) chairlady Franciscah Mutinda has asked women across the county to be on the front line and demand for their rights and representation in government.
Addressing women in Machakos on Tuesday, the chairlady said that it is time for women to stand up and let their voices be heard.
The MYWO chairlady told women not to keep quite while their rights are being infringed.
She said that the constitution has given them powers to demand for their rights and interests.
“As women we should remain alert and deal with anyone who wants to interfere with our rights,” she said.
Mutinda also asked county women to seek representation in key development projects and leadership both at the county and national government level.
She said that by seeking leadership positions, the women will be able to protect their interests.
The chairlady also asked the Machakos county government to protect the interests of women.
She appealed to Governor Mutua to implement gender rules and have more women in his government.
On the same note, the MYWO chair asked women to apply for government funds and start businesses.
She asserted that through Uwezo Fund women will be able to empower themselves socially and economically.
