A number of parents from Risa primary in Kitutu Masaba constituency have called upon the school management to introduce early morning preps in a bid to make use of the electricity that was recently installed.

Speaking on Sunday at the institution’s group during assessment and evaluation of the institution’s performance, they were unanimous that children from the institution should be subjected to preps as a way of improving deteriorating performance.

They differed with the Ministry of Education’s directive to ban morning preps arguing that then the government should have not wasted its resources to ensure every school was lit under rural electrification programme.

“Our institution has been performing dismally and this is the time to introduce morning preps since we have electricity with us. It will be quite absurd for the government to insist that pupils to report at 8am then if that is the case, it won’t have been necessary for them to light each school,” said Mr Yabesh Momanyi on behalf of the parents.

The school head, Mr George Onkubo, reiterated the willingness of the teachers to work overtime in a bid to improve the performance but insisted that parents had to sit down and agree on technical issues.

“You see, none of us can be against that idea but as you understand, there are a lot of issues and technicalities that must be put in place. Let us remember that the official government hours of reporting to school are at 8am. Therefore, we must discuss the issue and come with a solution,” he said.
