Nominated Member of County Assembly in Uasin Gishu Flora Cheptum has urged parents who have children with disabilities to seek assistance from the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE).

Speaking on Sunday during the screening and assessment of children with special needs by officers KISE at the Uasin Giishu District Hospital, Flora said that many parents have a tendency of hiding their disabled children whenever such services are available.

"Most parents shy away from taking their children for regular medical checkups. They don't give the issue the utmost priority it deserves. I am grateful that my dad took me to hospital early enough and also allowed me to further my education. I am whom I am because of him since education is the key to success,” she said.

She encouraged parents to always take their disabled children for regular checkups to get the right treatment as well as be educated on how to take care of them.
