Nakuru Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) chair Keziah Ngina has accused male politicians of intimidating and harassing elected and nominated women leaders.
Speaking at Nakuru town after holding a meeting with Rift Valley MYWO leaders over the weekend, Ngina said that intimidation of women has forced many of them to quit political leadership.
She said that some politicians are determined to undermine women in areas of leadership.
“We are concerned over what we see a plot by some male politicians to silence women on matters leadership,” said Ngina.
The Nakuru MYWO said that they will not sit and watch as their own are being intimated.
The chair noted that women are protected by the constitution and that their rise to leadership is not a favour to them but their right.
She said that most women in leadership have shown competence and commitment and that some male politicians feel threatened.
Ngina urged women in Nakuru and across the country to stand firm and support their own. She said that women will no longer keep quiet and allow few people to mess their careers.
She also urged the county government to include women in its development agenda.
“We have written to Governor Kinuthia Mbugua asking him to include women in leadership and development so that we can grow,” she said.
