Police in Kithimani are investigating an incident where the body of a 70-year-old man was found in a bar at Mitheru shopping centre on Monday morning.

Local residents speculated that the man, Vitalis Silu, who is said to be a watchman at the bar was hacked to death by robbers who broke into the bar on Sunday night.

Mr Orlin Mbae, a local bodaboda operator told reporters that the body was discovered at about 6.00am by men who had gone to the bar to drink.

He said they informed the chief who later called the police to claim the body.

Confirming the incident, Yatta OCPD Edward Kipsang said they had launched investigations into the incident.

“We are sure we will get to the bottom of this considering residents in the area are free to give any information to the police,” said Kipsang.

Kipsang said the body had deep injuries, a clear indication that the man was attacked using crude weapons and succumbed to the injuries.

The officer called on residents to identify all the suspected criminals and assist police in flashing them out.

The deceased's body was taken to Yatta Level Four Hospital Morgue awaiting post-mortem.
