A middle aged man was on Tuesday arraigned before Eldoret Magistrate court for allegedly defiling a 5-year-old girl.
According to Ruth Waithera, mother to the child, the accused duped the victim into his house on 23rd October 2014 in Eldoret’s Shauri Moyo estate where he committed the offense.
The accused who was a friend and a neighbor to the family is said to have taken advantage of the girl when the mother was away in hospital looking after her sick husband.
“I trusted this man with my daughter because he has always acted like a loyal family friend. I never for once thought he could do what he did,” said the distraught mother of three.
The mother claimed that she was not in a position to report the case immediately since the accused had given money to her daughter not to disclose the act.
She only came to know of the incident two days later after she heard her two daughters conversing about the matter and the subsequent complains the victim gave of pains in her private parts.
It was then that the mother decided to take her daughter to Centre for Assault and restoration in Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital where they confirmed the claim.
On his side, the accused claimed that the complainant was her lover and was framing him with the heinous act as revenge after leaving her for another woman.
Ruling over the case,Senior Principle Magistrate Obulutsa directed that the case be heard on 4th August when the victim will be available to testify since she was under medication.
