A man was on Friday apprehended by the Uika Location chief in collaboration with the police and the Yatta Children's Officer for allegedly neglecting his children.

Timothy Jabali was arrested following the order of Yatta Sub-County Children's Officer, David Munyao who said he had failed to meet his obligations as a parent.

Munyao said that the matter was reported to his office earlier in August where he asked Jabali to report to his office but he did not show up.

“A quarrel which led to the breakup of his family left the children under no one’s care we asked the father to appear in our Yatta office but he did not cooperate,” he said.

His wife Phyllis Wangari told the press that they have been married for more than ten years and they have been engaging in unending domestic fights.

The children's officer said that there were many child neglect incidents in the region saying they were a contributor to increased cases of children dropping out of school due to hardships they encounter.

“We have received several complaints about parents neglecting their children. Our officers are taking these matters seriously. We will ensure that children are safe and taken care of," he said.

The man who was later released, has been instructed to pay for the upkeep of his three children failure to which he faces arrest and will be charged in the court of law.
