A man was on Monday charged before a Nakuru court with obtaining money from a woman after pretending she could sell her mercury.
Onesmus Kiplagat was accused of obtaining Sh447,000 from Christine Chebi on diverse dates been May 17 and June 30, this year within Nakuru town.
It is alleged that Kiplagat said that he was in a position to sell mercury to Chebi and they thus agreed to do the business.
After he failed to bring the mercury as she had earlier promised, Chebi reported the matter to the police he searched for him.
He was arrested on Friday and taken to Nakuru central police station where he was charged.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Joel Ngeno, he pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of Sh200,000.
The court also ordered Kiplagat to be given copies of charge sheet, witness statements and other materials that the prosecution will use against him.
The case will be heard on October 12.
