A 27-year-old man on Thursday morning denied stealing a dog from his neighbour on October 14.
Bevan Kamani was released on a Sh10,000 cash bail by Kisumu principal magistrate Thomas Obutu. The prosecution told the court that on that day Kamani went to the home of his neighbour Perris Cherono in Miwani, Kisumu County and lured the two female dogs with a piece of meat.
The court also heard that the accused was once an employee of the complainant working as a security guard before being sacked three months ago due to misconduct.
The matter was reported at the Miwani Police Station where investigations were launched. Police relied on eyewitness accounts who saw the accused leaving the compound with the dogs.
During the incident, nobody was at the compound of the complainant. He was arrested on October 17 with the dogs. Kamani told the court that the matter was petty and there was a misunderstanding, therefore it could be handled outside the court.
However the complainant was not present in court to respond. The case will continue on January 14 next year.
