A land case in which an elderly man has sued his daughter-in-law took a new twist on Tuesday after the man disowned her.
Tunanka ole Nkuyayu, 76, caused drama at the Nakuru law courts after he accused his daughter-in-law of allegedly plotting to harm him, and thereby severed any links with her.
"This lady here is conspiring with her chief to harm me and take away my land," he told the court.
The five-acre piece of land in Mau Narok is being claimed by both the complainant and his daughter-in-law Flora Njehia whom he has accused of trespass.
Chief magistrate Joel Ng'eno heard that the accused had earlier divorced the complainant's son and cut links with that family and only wanted to have the land out of sheer greed.
The complainant's lawyer Olali Cheche told the magistrate that it was on record that the lady had indeed divorced her husband.
"My Lord we have evidence that the accused person in this matter had long divorced her husband and therefore should have no claim to any property belonging to the complainant and or his family," he averred.
There was even more drama when the complainant flatly rejected the magistrate's directive to have the case settled out of court by elders which included the accused chief.
"There is no point of directing me to sit down with her.She and her chief and the elders too are one and the same thing. They all have machinations of taking away the very land my mother gave to me and therefore I can't entertain such an idea," he stated.
The protracted land battle that began in 2010 has seen several out of court settlements flop.
Both teams were however directed to seek a domestic solution to the issue awaiting a court hearing on November 3.
