A man who has been on the run after killing his wife was found dead near Chania River in Majengo area, Thika.
The body of 48-year-old Ignatius Mwenda from Makongeni area was found by villagers decomposed 15 days after his wife was murdered inside their house.
Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia said the deceased is alleged to have committed suicide after he got wind that a warrant of arrest had been issued against him and his sister arrested. He said he also feared threats from angry in-laws.
He said that an identity card and a mobile phone believed to belong to his deceased wife were the only items found he had which helped identify him.
His body, the officer said, had decomposed beyond recognition as it was found in stagnant water.
His 40-year-old wife Irene Wanjiru was found murdered in their house. She had deep cuts and bled to death.
A warrant of arrest was issued after the husband went missing after the woman’s death. The couples’ relatives have since been helping with investigations as police believed that the man fled due to guilt since he might have been involved in the murder.
The body is lying at the General Kago Funeral Home.
