A man was on Wednesday arraigned before a Nakuru court charged with sexually assaulting a teenager.

Jared Ogembo, 23, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Liz Gicheha and denied the charges.

The charge sheet stated that on September 20, at Shabaab Estate in Nakuru Town, the accused sexually assaulted a 18-year-old Egerton University student.

The accused was also charged with a second count of indecently touching the private parts of the student.

In his defence, Ogembo told the court that the student was his lover and that the evidence to prove his innocence was destroyed after Egerton University students stole his phone.

"My phone which had text messages to prove my innocence was stolen by Egerton students after they beat me up," said Ogembo .

He denied the charges and was released on Sh100,00 with a surety of similar amount.

The hearing was set for November 9.
