A man was on Friday arraigned before a Nakuru court for threatening his brother with a panga after a dispute over land.

Patrick Kuria was charged with threatening his older brother Paul Garakunyo with a panga after a quarrel over undivided land on September 7, at Mirangine in Nyandarua County.

It is alleged that the two brothers have had several misunderstandings over the land where they live. On that day, they fought after arguing over who actually owns it.

When he appeared before Chief Magistrate Joel Ng'eno, Kuria said that they indeed argued but he did not use a panga to chase him.

"We have heard arguments over the shamba and on that day we almost fought. It is our father’s shamba and he wants to take a bigger share," Kuria told the court.

Kuria also told the court that he will end up selling his share and move out of that area to escape the daily misunderstandings with his elder brother.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh5,000 until October 12 when the case will be heard. The magistrate told them that they have an opportunity to settle the case outside the court.
