A man is fighting for his life at Kisii Level Six Hospital after he sustained serious injuries on his head following a scuffle with his brother over ownership of a quarry in Nyabogoye village, Kitutu Masaba Constituency.
The Tuesday morning incident left villagers in shock after the two brothers allegedly failed to reach a consensus following years of a protracted court battle.
A witness said the injured, Alex Ombachi and his younger brother Peter Ombachi have been wrangling over the quarry with the latter calling for withdrawal of the older brother from the site.
According to the witness, John Ongoi, fighting broke out when Peter allegedly stormed Alex’s compound and started attacking him using a panga and blunt objects.
“The squabbles between the two are not new to some of us but today they did the unthinkable. The suspect stormed the victim’s house and started attacking him before we came to his rescue. However, he fled after someone alerted him that the police were pursuing him,” said the witness.
Area chief Walter Mogambi condemned the incident and cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands. Instead, he urged them to use peaceful methods to resolve conflicts.
“This is very sad that someone is nursing injuries on the forehead over an issue that should have been solved using peacefully. It is wrong to take the law into your own hands and be warned over the same,” said the chief.
