A Kisumu man was on Wednesday slapped with a 14-year-jail term, after he pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery before Kisumu chief magistrate Esther Maina.
Jonathan Musembi had earlier admitted to robbing Ronald Otieno, a Kondele resident on October 27 last year and stealing property valued at approximately Sh75,0000.
Maina suspended six years of the sentence on condition that Musembi does not commit a similar offence within the next five years.
Musembi teamed up with accomplices whose names were not mentioned in court, but were said to be currently serving prison terms and hatched a plan to embark on a robbery spree.
The prosecution managed to prove that Musembi, armed with a pistol and a bolt cutter, scaled a precast wall at Otieno’s residence and forced open a window to gain entry.
He cut the burglar bars, entered the house with a firearm and went to bedroom where he woke him up, pointed the firearm at him and threatened to shoot him.
Musembi and his accomplices tied Otieno’s hands behind his back, and one of the robbers struck the victim on his right leg with a bolt cutter.
The gang stole Sh50,000, a cellphone, a gold wristwatch, and a camera before disappearing into the darkness.
On December 12 last year, police received information and arrested Musembi’s accomplices, who implicated him during investigations but he had been on the run until his arrest three months ago in Kisumu.
