A 23-year-old man from Munyaka was last night lynched by irate youths at Munyaka Village in Kamwangi, Gatundu North Sub-County.
This is after he allegedly attempted to break into a homestead.
Area sub-county commissioner Daniel Nyamiti said that the body was found on Wednesday morning by villagers.
He revealed that concerned villagers reported that they had found the body lying by the roadside in Munyaka after the man was lynched the previous night and his body left at the scene.
Confirming the incident from Kamwangi DOs office, Nyamiti said the man had attempted to break into a residential home but was apprehended by villagers who descended on him with blows.
“The body was left by the roadside by rowdy youths who killed the deceased as he attempted to break into a homestead to steal a TV set,” he said.
Nyamiti cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their hands and urged them to instead follow due process and hand suspects to police officers.
He castigated the mob justice incident citing it to be a crime and the involved broke the stipulated law.
“We have courts of law that offer justice to the complainants; mob injustice is not allowed in the constitution and the offenders broke the law,” he added.
The body was taken to Gatundu District mortuary. So far there have been no arrests relating to the incident but investigations are ongoing.
