Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has cautioned youths and university students in the county against being used by selfish politicians to cause violence.
Speaking to journalists at Eldoret Town on Wednesday, Mandago said some politicians could be using young people and college students to cause violence.
The Uasin Gishu governor told youths to keep of such politicians and individuals saying that they have no interest in helping providing solutions to their needs.
Mandago said the recent spate of riots experienced in some universities is of concern.
“We are asking youths and university students to stay away from politicians and other people who might want to use them in the wrong ways,” he said.
Mandago urged youths in the county to focus their strength on meaningful activities.
He said the county has started empowerment programmes for the youth which he urged them to join.
The Uasin Gishu governor also asked university students seeking leadership positions in their various campuses to preach unity and peace.
He said hate and tribalism will not help address the many issues facing the students and youths.
Governor Mandago pledged to work with universities and other learning institutions to boost education standards in the region.
