Uasin Gishu County Governor, Jackson Mandago has refuted claims that his government failed to utilize Sh 1.5 billion in the 2014-2015 financial year.
Speaking at Ziwa Ward over the weekend, Mandago said that the county has not returned the funds to National Treasury as being reported in the some sections of the media.
The Uasin Gishu Governor said that the money is still in the county accounts and will be used to pay for contracts that had already been started before the closure of the year last month.
Mandago said that the funds had already been factored in development.
“Uasin Gishu county government has not returned Sh 1.5 billion to National Treasury as being reported and speculated by some media outlets,” he said.
The Governor said that county is working on payments for contracts that were already ongoing. He added the county has utilized all the funds allocated to it in the last financial year.
However, reports by the Auditor General show the county failed to utilize Sh 1.5 billion on its development vote.
The governor also defended his government against misappropriation of government funds.
“Our financial records are available for scrutiny and audit,” he said. Mandago accused some people who he said are envious of the county’s development agenda and are plotting ways of tarnishing the county government’s image.
