Married couples in Nyamira County have been urged to use alternative peaceful resolution methods to avert rising cases of domestic violence and separation.

Speaking on Wednesday at Makairo, West Mugirango Constituency, Nyamira Senator Kennedy Okong’o said the incidents were throwing many families into a social limbo with children being the casualties.

Senator Okong’o said he had received several cases in which children from troubled families were in dire need of help and urged members of the clergy to consider holding counseling sessions to avert such incidents.

“We have peaceful means of solving conflicts hence we do not have to resort to uncouth means. I have seen many families crumble making children suffer a lot and this habit should be discouraged by all society members. I call upon clergy men to take an initiative and have our people counseled,” said Okong’o.

He promised to fund counseling exercises across the county besides urging authorities to take steps against parents who were ignorant of taking care of their children.

“If couples fail to use moderation in solving their issues, let them ensure the children are not affected. I am ready to fund counseling exercises because I am not impressed at all with the reports I am getting from the ground,” he added.

During the function, Senator Okong’o offered to finance the education of five children from the region who had dropped out of school on different occasions following marriage problems.
