Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Masaba branch has warned its members against being involved in promoting exam malpractices.
This comes after media reports that some teachers and university students were involved in circulating Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam papers prior to exam dates.
Branch Deputy Secretary General Mr James Oteki on Thursday issued a stern warning to its members by cautioning them against participating in the vice.
He urged invigilators across Masaba sub county to be vigilant in a bid to avoid cancellation of exam results by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) over irregularities.
“Its quite disappointing that some teachers are allegedly being involved in circulation of exam papers to candidates, if at all the media reports are to be believed. As a branch, we want to caution our members against being involved in such malpractice because we believe in hard work and success,” Mr Oteki said.
He said the union will not hesitate to expel or temporarily revoke membership of teachers who might be found culpable of the crime.
“I would like to call upon invigilators to be vigilant and help us fight the vice because we want to avoid scenarios where results of some candidates are cancelled on the basis of being involved in exam malpractices. Our members who will be found culpable will have their membership revoked,” he told this writer on phone.
On Wednesday, KNEC chief executive officer Dr Joseph Kivilu dismissed reports that exam papers had massively been leaked to candidates prior to exact dates of sitting for exams.
