According to business owners, the closure of the institution, which is their major source of customers, has led to losses that might force some entities to close down.

"Some of us have made losses that are beyond imagination to an extent that this might be the end of our business in this town", said Catherine Amwai a hotelier. The most affected traders are vegetable and fruit vendors who did not anticipate the happenings of last week.

"I had already ordered for supply of fruits and vegetables for two weeks, and having paid already it means that the supplies will still be brought. Now where do I take these fruits considering that students, who are my only customers, are not here," wondered Grace Mwikali.

Speaking to this writer on Sunday, a majority of those interviewed said that their lives have been turned upside down due to the closure of the institution. They mostly depend on their businesses as a means to earn their livelihoods. With the date of resuming studies still unknown, the traders are optimistic that something good will happen soon.

"When the university resumes, we are calling on all the parties involved to ensure that such a thing does not happen again in future because it is unhealthy for this area economy, " said Priscah Mwikali.
