Maseno residents are now benefiting from the fruits of devolution after Kisumu county government intervened and started road projects linking to Maseno town.
The residents said they had been kept in the dark for a long time and were hoping their 50-year-old cry would be heard.
The road is impassable during rainy seasons, paralysing most activities in the area.
James Matetai who owns a driving school said he closes his business during the rainy seasons because the road is impassible.
“I am forced to close my business during the rainy seasons. I can’t risk losing my vehicles due to the slippery nature of the road and the potholes,” said Matetai.
“We are hoping to complete the construction in the least time possible. We urge residents to be patient as we go on with the construction,” said Peter Kasuvumbi, one of the constructors.
Chief Nicholas Toro said he is pleased with the move stating it will help spur the area’s economy.
He said Maseno is very productive and industrious. “I urge you to be patient and give ample time to the constructors do their work. Keep the children away from the road for security purposes and to avoid accidents,” urged Toro.
