Maseno area residents are urging a contractor of a supermarket within the area to cordon off the site saying it poses danger to passers by.
The residents fear that construction materials such as bricks might fall off from the three storey building and injure them. The construction that has been ongoing for the past 12 months is located along a key route that many use to access Maseno Market and lack of safety measures worries the locals a lot.
“We are using this route daily and the construction is still ongoing and there is little concerns about our safety as residents. We urge the owner to fence the area so that no body is exposed to any risk associated to that,” said Catherine Achieng, a Maseno.
Many people in the area are fearing for the children and schools being closed, the situation is worsened. According to nearby shop premises owners, sometimes children usually come near the building to watch while the construction is still going on.
“We have been forced before to drive children away as they just stand on the foot watching, it is really dangerous,” said Gerishom Omollo, another resident.
Locals who addressed this writer said if the contractor cannot guarantee them safety, then he should halt the construction process.
They also faulted the Kisumu County council for allowing the construction of the building without ensuring that everything was in order.
