Maseno University students are set to go for the Annual Students Organisation of Maseno University (Somu) elections this month.

The annual event in which the students normally vote in their preferred candidates for the various positions in the students' council takes place every October.

Various aspirants have vowed to ensure that this year's elections are not marred by violence and hooliganism.

Mer Robert Okoth, an aspirant for the position of Kisumu City Campus Chairperson, told this writer that measures have been put in place to ensure that elections this year are peaceful.

Bonface Oduori, a presidential aspirant has said that his campaigns have been marked with peace and sanity.

Kisumu Campus is set to have their elections next week for the following positions: Chairperson, his deputy, treasurer and directors for the Academics and Sports dockets while their main campus counterparts will vote a week later. Kisumu Campus students will also have an opportunity to vote for the Students Executive Council (SEC) positions which include the Presidency, the Secretary General, Finance and Organising Secretaries.

Kisumu Campus Principal Prof Suzzy Gumo called for peaceful and transparent elections.
