The Masinga sub-county Executive Committee has expressed concern over ‘shoddy’ work done by Masinga Water and Sewerage Company in supplying water in the area.
This came after the residents went for a second week without water due to numerous illegal outlets on the area water source.
During a meeting held on Friday in the area Commissioner's boardroom and chaired by the Sub County Commissioner Mr Ben Gichichio, members noted that there were numerous people with personal interests in the company. They noted this had led to the illegal connections.
They also said that the personnel from the company were taking too long to repair burst pipes adding that they were also laying them very shallowly or leaving trenches on the road making it easier for illegal connections to be made at night.
Gachichio instructed the sub-county Water Officer Mr David Karega to ensure that the company complied with proper requirements while laying down or repairing the pipes.
The District Roads Engineer Mr Julius Giti said that some of the roads recently graded in town were now impassable after they were cut by water from burst pipes.
He also cautioned the company against cutting the roads while digging trenches for water pipes without seeking approval or erecting unauthorised bumps as they could cause accidents.
Mr Karega told the meeting that most of the personnel seconded to the company were disillusioned following the measures taken to implement the water reforms in the country.
He, however, undertook to ensure that the company improved its services.
