Kikuyu sub-county and surrounding towns matatu owners have been warned of fake Sacco’s in the sector to take caution as they will be arrested and be charged in the court of law.

According to Kikuyu sub-county matatu owners association chairperson Kinuthia Paul, this has been a concern and they are calling for the government to release a list of certified Sacco’s that should operate in the county and country at large.

“This is not something the government does not know, but we really need serious actions to be taken so that we can stop losing money as matatu owners to Sacco’s that purport to be registered by the ministry of transport,” said Kinuthia.

According to Daniel Owiyo a member to the association, he had been conned by a Sacco that had an office in the town area only to realise later that the Sacco was not registered when his car was involved in an accident.

“I really warn other matatu owners that the town is full of fake Sacco brokers and I do not want them to fall into the trap that I found myself in when my car got in an accident. They look genuine but in the real sense they are fake,” said Owiyo.

Speaking  in his office on Thursday, the sub-county OCPD Maweu Mutune cautioned the vague operators and said if hey be caught they would be arrested and be charged in the law courts of being fraudsters.

He advised all the matatu owners to be cautious of the Sacco’s they are being involved with and to take every required steps and precaution before parting with their money to the Sacco’s.

He said due to the existence of many Sacco’s being introduced to the transport industry one had to be knowledgeable of them.

Maweu said that necessary actions would be taken by the government to end the menace matatu owners were undergoing.
