Matungulu Ward Representative Magdalene Ndawa has asked the Machakos County government to spearhead women empowerment programmes and also include women in development.
Speaking to women groups at Matheini shopping centre on Thursay, the MCA said women from the ward have been abandoned.
She said several empowerment programmes have been conducted without the inclusion of Matungulu women.
She termed the move as discriminatory and urged Governor Alfred Mutua to ensure that women from the area are involved in development.
“It is wrong for the government to discriminate against us when it comes to matters of national importance,” she said.
Ndawa said women have equal rights to be involved in every development project taking place in the area.
“We will not beg the government to engage us in development as it is our right as clearly stipulated in the constitution,” she said.
The MCA stated that women will no longer plead for inclusion in leadership but will instead demand for inclusion.
The Matungulu MCA said the time when women used to be mistreated is over and that it is their chance to reclaim their rights.
