Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has called teachers across the country to obey the court order and resume work for the best interest of the suffering innocent children.
Makau said that it was high time the striking teachers sympathised with the thousands of children in public schools nationwide whose education is at stake.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta disobeyed the court as far as the teachers’ 50–60 per cent pay rise is concerned, teachers have also done so. Two wrongs do not make a right,” said Makau.
Makau said teachers who have been participating in the ongoing national strike since it started, should make a difference from the presidency by reconsidering their stands and going back to school soonest.
Makau, who spoke at Heritage of Faith and Hope Children Home in Mavoko on Tuesday, said the nationwide education stalemate had put future of thousands of children’s at stake.
He sympathised with the children especially candidates for both KCPE and KCSE arguing the strike would shatter dreams of some of the children, more so if the strike affects their performances in forthcoming results.
Makau called on leaderships of the teachers representative unions, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), to allow teachers get back to school as the salary increment issue is looked into by relevant stakeholders within 90 days as directed by the court.
