Mavoko assistant commissioner David Tegutwa has urged residents to be wary of the up coming brief case organisations in the region.
Addressing journalists in his office on Friday, Tegutwa said some of those who claimed to be running non governmental organisations, faith based organisations and community based organisations in the region were not genuine.
"Members of the public should be wary of the up coming brief case organisations in Mavoko so that they are not deceived in any way," said Tegutwa.
Tegutwa said such organisations were neither registered nor have offices thereby making them difficult to be traced whenever their alleged managers engage in criminal activities.
He said he had received reports from members of the public and business community stating that certain individuals purporting to be running charitable organisations within the region, move around soliciting for both financial and material support in the name of helping the needy.
"There are complaints from members of the public and business community that some of those who claim they run charitable organisations move around begging for material support and finances," said Tegutwa.
The commissioner sited a case of a well known individual who allegedly received donation of maize floor from an industrial miller by lying he was from an orphanage within the town.
Tegutwa said the company which issued the consignment only found out later that they had been coned when managers of the children home went requesting for support in preparation for a charitable event.
He said the government was laying strategies on how to weed out such rogue individuals fleecing the public and unsuspecting investors in the region of their investments, by taking advantage of the companies corporate social responsibilities initiatives.
