Women groups from Mavoko sub-county have been encouraged to invest in dairy farming in a bid to improve their livelihoods.

Addressing the press in Athi River town on Saturday, the sub-county's Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Chairlady, Angeline Maloza, said it was high time the women diversified in their investments.

"I am impressed with the way Mavoko women keep working hard to ensure there is always food on their tables, they need to diversify in their livelihoods sources though," said Maloza.

Maloza revealed that majority of the women were in businesses alongside other income generating activities courtesy of both Uwezo and women enterprise development funds.

She however noted that there was too much duplication of projects among the women with majority investing money in table banking at the expense of other better and more viable projects.

Maloza said projects like dairy farming would enable the women enjoy lots of benefits including milk thereby boosting and promoting their individual health and those of family members.

"Dairy keeping is a very lucrative and viable business, try it to enjoy its benefits to the fullest," said Maloza.

Maloza however called on the women to work as groups before sourcing for dairy cattle as individuals arguing team work would help members learn on milk production before going solo.

She said that there were lots of well wishers and development partners who were ready and willing to support women interested in dairy project from the region.
