Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has encouraged men who travel for longer distances to test for the HIV/Aids after their journeys.
Kinuthia said the program had been implemented in Ethiopia and was successful.
“Every man should get tested for the HIV/Aids virus so that they can be put on treatment," Mbugua said.
"This will help prevent them from spreading the virus to their partners."
Kinuthia said he learnt of the method during his recent visit to Ethiopia.
He said the success registered by the project was an indicator it was good for adoption in Kenya.
Kinuthia was speaking at the county headquarters on Monday where he reported that Nakuru had made wider milestones in fighting the deadly scourge.
“The rate of spread has reduced in the county," he said.
"We are also seeing more people receive proper medication and hence live longer."
He hailed the Health department for its efforts in ensuring that everyone in the county gets affordable healthcare.
“We have fully stocked and equipped hospitals which I encourage residents to utilise." Mbugua said.
"Many have been receiving proper treatment for free. We have managed to get the medication and clear all our debts with the drug supplying body."
