Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua on Tuesday launched the Nakuru County spatial development planning and digital topographic mapping exercise.
During the launch Mbugua said the county was taking the lead in driving the urban agenda through planning for decent and high quality livelihoods for the urban population.
He said that cities and other urban centres are engines of growth which the county was keen on developing in the coming years.
GeoMap Consultants have been tasked to undertake the exercise that is expected to take a period of one year in collaboration with the Land, housing and physical planning departments of the county government.
"The Nakuru County Spatial Plan will identify resources in the county and establish their status of exploitation and make proposals on how to utilise these resources to improve the welfare the people of Nakuru County ," he said.
According to the a communication by the county government the plan seeks to influence the distribution of people and activities in spaces of various scales in the county.
"It is aimed at striking a balance between urban and rural development, as well as harmonising various interests in land use for maximum utilisation of land at the same time taking care of the environment," a post on the county government's social media page reads.
