Nakuru residents have been given a reason to smile after the county government purchased drugs and other medical appliances worth Sh52 million from the Kenya Medical Supplies authority (Kemsa).

Speaking at the county headquarters on Monday after receiving the Kemsa truck containing the products, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said the fact that his government was committed to ensuring safe and quality healthcare.

The governor noted that the county health department had signed an agreement with the medical suppliers that will see different health facilities receive facilitation on a quarterly basis.

“We are committed in ensuring that all our health facilities are well equipped with modern equipment while at the same time have the necessary supply of drugs,” he said.

The medicine will be supplied in all sub-county hospitals in a programme targeting more than 30 facilities across the larger Nakuru County.

“The first batch will see major hospitals, health centres and dispensaries receive their packages with the rest being distributed to the ones that receive huge numbers of patients on a daily basis,” the governor explained.

The ceremony was attended by among other health CeC Dr Mungai Kabii, director of communication Eddy Kimani, Nakuru town East MP David Gikaria and his Nakuru Town West counterpart Samuel Arama and other senior officials.
