Matungulu East MCA Magdalene Muthike has urged women to implement key projects so as to empower themselves economically. Speaking during a function organised for women at Matungulu sub-county on Monday, the MCA asked them to take up a bottom approach by taking emphasis in key projects that will benefit them. Muthike said that women should empower themselves by use of self-help groups which will attract donor funding and shun things that will prevent them from progressing. She particularly noted that Mutungulu women were lagging behind in development and asked them to identify their strong holds in business and use them to succeed instead of depending on their male spouses. She reiterated that one of the government’s efforts was to empower women by helping to attract donor funding through the groups they have formed. The MCA said that women were the backbone of the economy and by empowering them that will ensure development in the country. She further called on all stakeholders to join up in empowering women by taking part in issues that mostly affect women.
