Nyota MCA Njuguna Gichama has challenged the government to resettle Mau forest evictees to enable them lead a better life.
Njuguna claimed most of the evictees are wallowing in poverty in spite of government's constant pledges to resettle them.
“All those evicted from Mau Forest have been subjected to suffering in a sense that putting food on their tables is a problem," said Njuguna.
Speaking on Tuesday at Nyota Ward, Kuresoi North sub-county, after paying a visit to the evictees, Njuguna urged the government to honor its plead and resettle the evictees.
“The government should hasten the process of resettling Mau evictees to end their suffering," said Njuguna.
Njuguna said that the decision to pay the evictees was passed by parliament but nothing is coming forth.
“Embobut evictees were paid yet those from Mau are yet to receive their pay," said Njuguna.
The ward leader also accused the local chiefs of derailing the process of resettlement.
“Chiefs have being beating those seeking resettlement and I had to intervene when a man was locked at chief's camp for five days," said Njuguna.
In 2009 the government ordered up to 30,000 families to leave their homes at Mau Forest.
The government said it was necessary to protect the Mau forest, Kenya's largest water tower.
