Awasi/ Onjiko Ward Representative Manuel Aim has joined his constituents in condemning acts of criminality in Awasi market.
Mr Aim said insecurity in the market has worsened in the recent days with killings of innocent persons becoming rampant.
He blamed laxity of the police for the killings and called for the transfer of the officers who are not ready to perform their duties diligently.
“Criminals are being arrested and released under suspicious arrangements, officers who are not ready to work should quit or ask for transfer. My people cannot be killed like this,” he said.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Thursday after Awasi residents held a demonstration in the market, Mr Aim called upon Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to come into the matter when he visits Kisumu City tomorrow.
He said Boinnet should crack the whip on officers who are not ready to offer services to the public.
“I am appealing to the IG to take up the matter of Awasi when he visits this city tomorrow (Friday). Let him weed out the bad elements of officers who are tarnishing the name of the police force,” he said.
Aim said Awasi market is a small area that should be easy to patrol by the officers during the day and at night.
He said investors will run away from Awasi and asked for speedy arrest of the situation noting that the people of Awasi will suffer more if investors’ confidence erodes as a result of insecurity.
