Sarang'ombe ward representative Pius K'otieno has faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta's US tour as the nation awaits an amicable solution to the crisis currently crippling the education sector.
Speaking Wednesday at Uhuru Park during a rally organised by the opposition Cord, K'otieno expressed disappointment in the President who he claims went out on a tour to the US after delivering a speech about the teachers demands.
"It is not in order for the President to leave the country for a trip to America while leaving the country suffering because of his tough stance concerning the teachers pay rise," K'otieno said.
"Where has he gotten the money for that trip yet he claims there is no money to pay teachers?" he asked.
While urging teachers to stay put as they demand for their rights, the MCA also rebuked Uhuru for failing to honour the Supreme Court ruling yet he is “a product of the same court”.
"The President has proven to the nation that he does obey the court decisions; he should understand that the same court ruled in his favour in the last election. Teachers should stay strong with their demands until the government honours the ruling made by the Judiciary concerning their salary," he said.
The rally attracted several leaders across the political divide, with the public from various areas in Nairobi turning up in large numbers.
