A local leader has called on a good working relationship between police officers and bodaboda operators arguing that constant harassment was affecting service delivery.
Speaking at the Bahati Shopping centre on Saturday, area MCA Peter Nderitu noted that some officers were harassing young operators over petty issues.
“Everybody is governed by the law and I don’t see why an officer should take advantage on our boys who are hustling for survival,” he said.
According to Nderitu, the bodaboda business had revived the county’s economy by creating available job opportunities to young people a majority who had been idle for long.
The legislator said that a vibrant economy calls for mutual understanding between various groups that work in different fields for a common goal.
“It’s only by cultivating a good working relationship that we can enhance development in this county, they are people like any other who deserve decent treatment,” Nderitu noted.
He further cautioned the operators against disguising in the business while fuelling criminal activities in the area.
“Our youth should respect the business and ignore criminals who take advantage of them to facilitate crime,” he advised.
The MCA urged the operators to join Saccos and save so as to increase their economic status and secure an independent future.
