Hospital ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi has partnered with the Kenya Red Cross Thika branch to clean up Majengo area.
Mwangi has taken the move after concerns from area residents who allege the college students residing in the area are responsible for the waste disposal.
Speaking when he flagged off the cleaning on Friday, Wamwangi said that he is disappointed that the county government vehicles have been avoiding collecting wastes for the area, claiming it has been dumped intentionally by the residents yet it their mandate to clean up the area.
He added that the government pays the cleaners to ensure they clean up everywhere in Thika town and they should not avoid any place.
“We cannot pay people who we cannot see their work. These are paid to clean this area and as you can see they have done nothing to ensure the area is clean,” the MCA said.
He said that he will ensure that residents live in clean and conducive environments.
He, however, called on the residents to come up with proper ways of disposing of their wastes together and in a neat manner before the cleaners take it up away.
