A Member of the County Assembly has unveiled a project that focuses at aiding bright students who cannot raise school fees.
The MCA on Wednesday launched a foundation that will support disadvantaged students in completing their education at secondary and university levels.
Already, ten students from Gesima Ward in Kitutu Masaba constituency have been awarded full scholarships to study up to university level courtesy of the Ken Atuti Foundation.
Gesima Ward MCA Ken Atuti, who is the founder of the initiative said all students from disadvantaged backgrounds will be supported to complete their studies.
Speaking as he launched the foundation, Atuti said he would work towards supporting academics in his ward and promised to support more needy children from the area.
“This is like a dream come true for me," he said.
"I have been longing to have a foundation that will support our children so that they complete their studies well without interruptions. I am targeting at least 200 needy students."
He accused his opponents of politicising the initiative and said he never intended to use funds for the ward development to run the foundation.
“This is purely a personal affair and I do not want to talk much about it. Those going around spreading rumors that I will be using money from the ward development kitty are liars and basically have ill intentions against my administration,” he said.
According to the MCA, the first batch of the beneficiaries will be known to the public by October with the second batch expected to be unveiled in November.
“I am targeting to unveil the first beneficiaries by October and the second by November. The resources will be purely from my pocket and my friends,” he added.
